Process:

They only accept cash. It is 75 dollars for a new license and they don't always have change. It's better to bring the exact amount. It took a little under an hour all together. You need your driver's license with your current permanent address on it. If your driver's license does not have your current address on it, call for a list of other accepted forms as it frequently changes. You will need to provide the city and state in which you were born. You then must fill out a short questionnaire, sign several documents, and provide your social security number.(I'm not sure what happens if you refuse to give them your ssn.) One ink print of your right index finger is required to go directly on your license. You also need to do a complete set of digital prints for both hands. This time varies because it depends if they have someone there who knows how to take prints digitally.

Comments:

Military members need different documents. Make sure to call and check with them before you go if you are in the military as the paperwork needed sometimes varies depending on branch, etc. Also, know that your license expires in 5 years and you will have to go back to the probate court to renew. They do issue temperory licenses if you liscense is close to expiring. They rerun your prints and background check EVERY time you renew so it may take 6 weeks from the day you renew. Keep this in mind so you can renew way before your expiration date. Finally, your prints stay in a database used by law enforcement forever whether you renew your firearms permit or not.

New ApplicationSubmitted: Apr. 18, 2010
Total Time Taken: 2 weeksTotal Payment: 70 dollars

Process:

no longer using ink.pressure pad type pictures (computerized); all ten fingers for sure, plus palms if i remember it right.

Comments:

Went around lunchtime and was turned away because apparently the ppl who do the prints don't have time.also was required to give my ssn on application, which i thought was not the law. They were belligerent when i told i told them i didn't think it was required to give ssn for gfl. bad experience overall.
