Total Time Taken: 2 weeksTotal Payment: 55.00

Process:

The probate court is located in the main courthouse building. When entering be prepared to go through a metal detector and empty pockets, watches, cell phones etc. It's best to just leave the stuff in the car. Once you go through metal detector make an immediate left and the probate court is straight ahead in the corner. You have to fill out a questionnaire similar to a fishing/hunting license and pay 55.00 in cash. They will then fingerprint your index finger and mail you the permit in 1-2 weeks. They do not do applications on Wednesday and normally are open 8-4:30. Staff was courteous and my wife and I were in and out in under 15 minutes.

Process:

Walked in main doors, asked to put all metal objects in tray for scanning, walked through metal detector, walked into probate office, met by a super friendly staff member, checked my drivers license, handed it back, gave me a form to fill out, gave her the finished form and she handed me a laminated paper to read over and make sure my answers matched accordingly (this is the same questionnaire you fill out when purchasing a new gun at stores if you don't have a permit) , I handed that back to her and she handed me a form she had typed up with my information on it, asked me to double check the information on it, handed me the ink and put my right index fingerprint on the bottom left of the page (this bottom left hand corner will be cut off and laminated and mailed to you), she took the paper back for processing, paid her the one time $55.00 fee in cash and said if there wasn't any problems I would be receiving my card in the mail in less than 2 weeks. The entire process took about 10 minutes tops. Very simple and easy to do. I also want to note that they do not do applications for GFL's on Wednesdays so no one will waste their time trying.

Comments:

I applied on the 4th of march and received it on the 20th. Note the time taken included weekends. I was unfamiliar with the exact location of the probate court. It is in the court house big white columns out front. It's called the Justice Center. You have to go through security, belt buckles will set off alarms leave all metal in the car including cell phone just for sake of ease. The application took 15 mins max. The girl i had didn't like that i read over the form thoroughly (she kept saying it's the same thing that you just read on the other sheet)but that is her problem not mine.

Comments:

Had a blip on record but instead of blanket denial asked me to come in. Made the appointment and after speaking to the judge was issued on the spot.
