Process:

I went to the Probate court on 7/16/09 to obtain my firearms license. I brought with me $20.44 in cash and my money order made payable to the "Fulton County Police Department" in the amount of $40.00. After filling out some paperwork and swearing that the information I gave was correct I walked across the street to the Fulton County Police Department to get the finger prints done. The finger prints took about 20 minutes to complete. The people working said it would take 3-4 months to get my background check completed then said it would take additional time for the probate judge to issue my license. The entire process from arrival at the court house to leaving the police department took about 45 minutes.

Total Time Taken: we'll see!Total Payment: $61.44

Process:

Cash ONLY for license application - $20.44. $1 more if you request a temporary permit (I would advise this for renewals; I keep reading that the process is taking longer than the 60 days the court has told the counties to issue the permits within.) $40 Money Order ONLY made out to Fulton County Police Department. Total time from application through finger printing was about two hours; the digital finger print machine didn't like my fingers....

Process:

Applied in Sep 2009. Non govt people can't enter at 136 Pryor. You must go to another building and connect in. Paid $20.44 cash at probate court. Walked across the street to Fulton Police. Paid $40 money order and had fingerprints done electronically. Total time around an hour.

Type:

Renewal ApplicationSubmitted: Nov. 13, 2009
Total Time Taken: Haven't received yet.Total Payment: 60.44 plus parking

Process:

A pleasantly painless process. Arrived at the courthouse, went through security Kabuki, found probate court, filled out a couple of pages of forms, and paid $20.44 in cash. Showed that I had my $40 money order, and raised my right hand and stated that everything on my form was correct. (Mistake: I had prematurely signed the form, so I had to redo one page and sign it in front of the clerk.) Right index finger into an inkpad and onto the application.

This is a renewal, and my existing permit was going to expire within days. The probate clerk didn't volunteer that a temporary permit was available, but when I asked, she promptly typed up the temporary card and collected a second fingerprint.

Got directions to go across the street for fingerprinting.Through another metal detector, across a courtyard, and into the Fulton County Police Department. A very friendly clerk took me with no waiting, and joked throughout the process -- "Was I here for my exotic dancing permit", etc. (Maybe you had to be there: I am an overweight 47-year-old pale male.) Electronic fingerprint scanning, so no ink to clean off.

Total elapsed time, 45 minutes, including crossing the street twice, getting lost in the courthouse building, and going through two metal detectors.

Both the probate clerk and the fingerprinter said that I should get my permit within 60 days, but "sometimes it took as long as 90 days." The second clerk (FCPD) said that if I hadn't seen it by mid-January (60 days), to call and check on the process. She seemed genuinely supportive of citizens exercising concealed carry.
